‘Terrapieno’ is made from Pinot Grigio grapes grown entirely in a small, single vineyard in the Valpantena valley in eastern Valpolicella. The vines are now about 11 years old. The gravelly, well-drained soil results in fruit that is always among the best Pinot Grigio produced each year. Cool currents blowing down the valley mean the grapes ripen slowly, accentuating their aromatic qualities, while the poor, well-drained soils, great aspect and excellent vineyard management combine to produce a Pinot Grigio with unusual intensity.
This single vineyard Pinot Grigio has great intensity of flavour and balance. It has lifted aromas of pear and bread crust, typical for Pinot Grigio of this region. The nose gives way to lovely weight and a silky texture on the palate, with hints of dried herbs. The wine finishes dry with a zesty acidity and a saline minerality on the finish.
